There’s nothing quite like a Cotswold Christmas. As winter settles over the landscape, the region’s honey-stone villages become postcard-perfect settings for festive wanderings, glowing shopfronts, twinkling trees, candlelit windows and community celebrations spilling into the streets. Whether you’re seeking a bustling market town, a peaceful village with traditional charm, or somewhere beautifully decorated for a seasonal getaway, these are the most enchanting places to experience Christmas in the Cotswolds.

Broadway transforms beautifully for Christmas, with its elegant High Street lit from end to end. Independent boutiques open late, cafés serve warming seasonal treats, and historic coaching inns glow with firelight. It’s the perfect setting for festive shopping paired with an evening supper in one of the village’s landmark hotels. For an extra special shopping experience, this year's Broadway Late Night Christmas Shopping evenings are Friday 28th November & Friday 5th December 2025 from 4.30 to 8.30pm, where stores will be open later and streets will be lined with decorations.

Bibury, A Christmas postcard come to life

Often described as one of the most beautiful villages in England, Bibury feels especially enchanting at Christmastime. Arlington Row, already iconic, becomes even more atmospheric beneath crisp winter light or a gentle frost, making it one of the most photographed festive scenes in The Cotswolds. Bibury Trout Farm is also hosting a Santa’s grotto event every weekend from the 13th of December, with mulled wine for the adults, whilst your little ones will get a wrapped present and marshmallows.

With family-friendly events and a warm village atmosphere, it’s an ideal place to visit with children.

Stow-on-the-Wold, a hilltop village made for winter

Stow-on-the-Wold feels wonderfully wintery thanks to its elevated position and historic square. With cosy pubs, charming shops and a slower pace, it’s ideal for those seeking a quieter but still beautifully atmospheric Christmas outing. The village’s market square is bustling all year round, but during the festive season, the stalls turn towards Christmas, a perfect place to pick up a gift for a loved one or a hot drink and wander through narrow streets lined with unique boutiques.
