The beauty of natural materials in Cotswolds interior design

Decorating a home in The Cotswolds is all about finding a harmony between the natural landscape outside the door and the home interiors. For this reason, Cotswolds interiors are quite neutral in tone and find little ways to bring the outdoors, inside. From simple nods to the honey-hued stone and sourcing homewares made from craftsman who make the most of the area’s natural resources, we’re sharing our favourite brands and artisans you can peruse to bring a touch of The Cotswolds to your own home.

Fenwick & Tillbrook for honey-hued paint

Fenwick & Tillbrook are colour and paint experts renowned for their pigment-rich colours that, much like The Cotswolds itself, stand the test of time. If you adore the honey tones of Cotswold stone, then they've created the shade “Cotswold Cottage” in collaboration with one of our favourite local interior designers, Bee Osborn. Inspired by Bee’s own Cotswold cottage renovation, the shade was discovered when “scraping back some old wallpaper”. The paint is beautifully elegant and understated, perfect for those that prefer neutral tones on their walls inspired by The Cotswolds’ natural stone.

Beswick Stone for a typical Cotswold stone look

If you physically want to bring in Cotswold stone elements to your home then Beswick Stone would be our go-to pick. While Cotswold stone is expensive to purchase itself, their Cotswold Style Flagstone range uses real limestone that give that quintessential Cotswold stone floor look without the hefty price tag.

Each tile is chosen for quality, hand-finished and much more durable, making it an aesthetic yet practical, long-wearing choice for the home.

Planted for eco-conscious furniture

Living in harmony with the natural world outside the door means making eco-conscious interiors choices where possible too. For furnishing the home, we’d look no further than Planted Furniture based in Cheltenham. Planted create quality, bespoke furniture in the UK without the typical man-made synthetics.

Each piece is made from scratch using traditional techniques while being mindful of their environmental impact by using non-toxic materials such as linen, recycled cotton, 100% natural and compostable hessian lining, and plenty more for beautiful furniture that doesn’t compromise on comfort or quality.

Hart Silversmiths for a piece of Cotswold history

While slightly more ornate than natural limestone-inspired elements, choosing a few silver homeware pieces from Hart Silversmiths is an amazing way to own a little piece of Cotswold history.

Generations of silversmiths have been designing and making silverware in the same workshop that was established in Chipping Campden in 1902. If you’re looking for something special to add to your interiors then you can shop or commission domestic silverware such as cutlery, bowls, tea and coffee services and even special, silver-mounted crystal decanters.

Hadeda for natural, gorgeous homewares

Life in The Cotswolds is all about living outside the fast lane. While work and career life still goes on, so does an appreciation for slow living and this carries through to Cotswold interiors. For gorgeous homewares that embrace their natural elements and hold true to a sustainable philosophy, we love Hadeda.

Every piece is handmade by African artisans with natural materials from sustainable sources such as their cane furniture, baskets woven from indigenous grasses and natural clay pots and pendant lights. Even though the designs are created beyond The Cotswolds, Hadeda’s style and colour palette is very “Cotswold-esque” and you can visit their showroom in Kingham to see just how harmonious their homewares work with the area’s natural architecture.
