A library or reading room is the ultimate spot in a home to unwind. Whether you’re lucky enough to have a space dedicated to your favourite reads or you’re creating a cosy reading nook, we’ve put together some of our favourite pieces and accessories so you can create a bright and contemporary reading room.

Little Greene Paints - Vibrant paint

Get creative and choose a bright colour in your reading room to bring the surrounding shelves and stories to life. We love paints from Little Greene, an independent, British paint manufacturer and highly recommend checking them out. Two homes we sold recently include gorgeous marine blue walls and a sunshine yellow, similar to Little Greene’s Mister David shade. The fine paints from Little Greene are highly-pigmented and handcrafted, ensuring your vibrant reading space is flawless!

The Library Ladder Company - Library ladder

All reading enthusiasts have dreamt of climbing a ladder or rolling along on one to find their favourite read and so having a library ladder in your home is something truly special. The best place to kit you out is The Library Ladder Company. Founder and Interior designer, Jessica Davis struggled to source library ladders for her client's homes and set about sourcing a range of safe, high quality and innovative solutions, making it the best place to go to find design-led, beautifully made and reliable ladders for your reading room.

The Cotswolds Company - Burford Ivory Grand Bookcase

If you need to build your grand bookcase, then The Cotswold Company have a beautiful collection of bookcases from large pieces like this one to narrower versions for smaller spaces. The Burford Ivory bookcase brings brightness into the room and there are three tall rows of adjustable shelving to look after your book collection, topped with an elegant tapered cornice. Made to last from solid pine and composite wood, with a tongue and groove back for extra strength, it’s been painted a beautiful soft white colour that will add light to your room, and it will really come to life with family photographs and treasured ornaments dotted among the books.

Nkuku - Abe Linen Charcoal Armchair

Either complement you wall colour of choice with soft furnishings in the same shade or bring in some neutral tones which you can shake up with cushions and blankets. The Abe armchair from Nkuku is a timeless classic with a twist. Eco-friendly and handmade, the deconstructed back and sides reveal a natural mango wood frame and hemp lining to make it a subtle and elegant addition to a contemporary reading room.

Cutter Brooks - Edith Reading Lamp

Entirely handmade in Provence, France, we love this floor lamp from Atelier Vime brings beautiful, soft lighting ideal with its natural wicker shade. Instead of relying on overhead lighting, we’d recommend mixing it up with spot lighting and lamps to keep the room ambient with well-lit spots to read. We’d also recommend checking out Pooky who have a vast collection of lamps and shades to explore.

Susie Watson Designs - Handwoven Wool Kilim Rug

A reading room needs a cosy rug! This gorgeous hand-woven wool Kilim Biarritz rug is a wonderful mix of colours and works to bring warmth and if you’re keeping the rest of your colour scheme quite neutral, some vibrant tones to the room.
