The entrance hallway doubles as a dining room and there is nothing better than sitting around the long dining table, particularly in the winter, with the open fire blazing. The wine flows and laughter gets louder and louder.

During the summer months, we switch to the family room on the other side of the kitchen. Sitting in there in the early evening with the sun setting and the dogs and kids running riot outside, the patio doors on both sides wide open and the view over the lake, watching a bit of Wimbledon on the telly, it’s heaven.

As you walk around the side of the house and across the lawn the view down to the lake is revealed and the fields stretching away to the horizon with nothing to interrupt the view apart from the beautiful stone bridge at the far end of the lake. We love to string up a hammock in the shade under the massive sycamore tree and watch the swans (Sid and Nancy) patrolling the lake with their cygnets strung out in a line behind them.
